Summer Trip 1 ハイキング

しぇふぁ家のこの夏一番の遠出。家から車で４時間ぐらいのところにある、ボールダーマウンテンというところに小旅行してきました。（あ、これは８月の中旬）普段メローが仕事に学校で、２日以上の休みはほとんどないけど、夏は３週間ぐらい学校が休みで、仕事の連休があったので行けたんです。

行きは車の調子があまりよくなくって、着いたのは夜１１時半。それでも、１９９８年のぽんこつが煙をいっぱいだしながらがんばってくれました。すぐ、テントをはって、就寝。

次の日は朝からハイキング。

The M&M Sheffer family was able to slip away for one more summer trip this year, in August, to a campground 4 hours from Orem on Boulder Mountain. We had car troubles that slowed our travels but our car belched smoke and climbed the mountain till we arrived at the campground at 11PM.

メローが「普通のハイキングスポット」と言ってたその場所は、こんな急ながけ、、、でした。

日本で育った私たちはこんなとこ、普通のハイキングと呼ばないのよ。

Merrill claimed that the next day would be his normal hiking spot. It was the super steep cliff pictured above. To us city folk raised in Japan this was not a normal hiking spot.

みんな怖がりながら、太ももピクピクしながら降りていきました（笑）
Everyone made their peace with God and slowly decended the cliff with their calfs about to explode.



今回メローに背負われて一番楽してた。王様せき 。
Kai was carried in the king's canopy in Merrill's backpack to the dismay of others young and old who "wanted to become Kai"


これは、途中。だいぶ崖から坂へと変わっていきました。

This is partway into the hike where the cliff of certain doom became a frightening yet managable slope.

ずっと下に川がながれています。１００メートル？２００メートル？すっごく高いとこで、メローが冗談（だったみたい）で、「ちょっと、めぐちゃん、その岩のぎりぎりのとこ行ってー写真とりたいから。」そして、私ふつうにオッケーっていうて行き始めてメローびっくり。焦ったみたい。写真をとったらすぐに迎えに きてくれました。


This is a rock hanging precariously over a 100 foot drop to a river bed. Merrill said (jokingly) "Meg I want to take your picture on the rock. Climb out there." He almost *%#!& himself as I took him seriously and quickly scrambled onto the shelf.

これもすごい急。岩の層がきれいやった。

This is a steep rock staircase with Merrill, Junji, and Kyoji at the top.

片道４０分ぐらいかな？かなりいい運動になったと思う。

The hike was 40 minutes one way

かえりの崖はいうまでもなくきつかった！
The hike back up the cliff of death was more painful than words can tell.

かいぼん、キャンプファイヤーのまわりをお気に入りの枝をもってぐるぐる。

Kai circled the campfire all night holding his favorite stick.

いつも何でいたずらできるか探してるので、目がはなせへんかった。

Kai is always looking for something horrible to do to keep us on our toes.

これは行く途中、ふるーいガソリンスタンドをみつけたので、メローがめずらしがってとったもの。

During our travels, we stopped at an old gas station and snapped a shot of the gas pumps.
